L'autre bout du monde
Emily Loizeau
| On dit qu'il y fait toujours beau | They say the weather's always fine there |
| C'est là que migrent les oiseaux | It's where the birds migrate |
| On dit ça | That's what that say |
| De l'autre bout du monde | about the other end of the world |
| J'avance seule dans le brouillard | I move forward alone in the fog |
| C'est décidé ça y est, je pars | It's decided it's done, I will leave |
| Je m'en vais | I will go |
| À l'autre bout du monde | to the other end of the world |
| L'autre bout du monde (x3) | The other end of the world (x3) |
| J'arrive sur les berges d'une rivière | I arrive on a river bank |
| Une voix m'appelle puis se perd | A voice calls for me but is lost |
| C'est ta voix | It's your voice |
| À l'autre bout du monde | at the other end of the world |
| Ta voix qui me dit mon trésor | Your voice that tells me my treasure |
| Tout ce temps, je n'étais pas mort | all this time, I wasn't dead |
| Je vivais | I lived |
| À l'autre bout du monde | at the other end of the world |
| L'autre bout du monde (x2) | The other end of the world (x2) |
| Sur la rivière il pleut de l'or | On the river it's raining gold |
| Entre mes bras je serre ton corps | In my arms I hold you tight |
| Tu es là | You are there |
| À l'autre bout du monde | at the other end of the world |
| Je te rejoins quand je m'endors | I come to you when I fall sleep |
| Mais je veux te revoir encore | But I want to see you again |
| Où est il | Where is it |
| L'autre bout du monde ? | this other end of the world? |
| L'autre bout du monde (x3) | The other end of the world (x3) |
Anyone recognise themselves...?
Those who saw the wonderful drama Kuokou kyoushi (High school teacher) from 1993, might remember the theme song ぼくたちの失敗 (Our mistake). It was performed by the japanese artist Morita Douji and this was not the only beautiful song in her repertoire! On this website you can find a bunch of her albums available for listening online! I recommend going there with all my heart!

In Hong Kong, 1962, Mrs Chan is moving into a new apartment. Mr Chow is moving into the apartment nextdoor. They are both married, but eventually discover their spouses are having an affair. Together they seek to find an explanation to infidelity while avoiding to fall into the same trap themselves. Something proving to be more difficult than expected.
The movie presents an untraditional way of storytelling. Repetitive shots and repetitive use of music describes how life evolves with minor changes in details. Sometimes, what may at first look like a single scene is in fact not. Take good notice of Mrs Chan's dresses that marks the discontinuity. As a viewer you're constantly peeking over someone's shoulder or around a corner, like you're following the characters in secret.
So much can be said about this movie. For further in depth comments I recommend the dicsussion board on imdb (here).
Others may find it slow and boring but personally I love this movie! Much of it is driven by dialogue and facial expressions conveying feelings and emotions rather than action.
All he asks from me is the food to give him strength
All he ever needs is love and that he knows he'll get
So, I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.
All the pay I need comes shining through his eyes
I don't need no cold water to make me realize that
I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, nana...
I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, nana...
I love my dog, Baby, I love my dog. Na, na, na...
I love my dog, Baby, I love my dog. Na, na, na...

"Nobody knows" is fiction based on a true story that took place in Tokyo. It tells the story of four children living in an apartment with their mother. They all have separate fathers, out of which no one claims responsibility. Nobody knows about their existance and they don't attend school. Only the oldest son, Akira, is allowed to show himself outside. When their mother suddenly disappears, this 12-year-old boy has to take care of his brother and sisters growing up much too fast.
The movie is told through the eyes of the children and you get very close to them. Although their situation is unbelievably difficult and tragic they adjust to it. Just like children living in the moment, their daily lives are told like childhood memories. Close-up shots of sunlight, growing plants and nail-polish on the floor make the bigger picture disappear.
I love this film and would recommend it to anyone! It is beautiful and moving. Sad and bright at the same time!
I thought I'd mention one of my favourite artists John Bauer. He was a swedish painter and illustrator most famous for his illustrations in a folklore annual called Bland tomtar och troll (Among gnomes and trolls) in the early 20th century.
Pictures tell more than a thousand words, so here is a link I warmly recommend:
